It WILL be alright in the end …
We are living through some extremely unsettling times, thanks to COVID-19. But, if we act thoughtfully, follow the advice of our medics, socially-distance, limit exposure and wash our hands thoroughly, we WILL get through this! There will be a time, hopefully not too far into the future, when we will be looking back at what a difficult time this was. But we will also, then, be able to look forward, with plans to rebuild our lives and our society. And, I hope, we will be able to focus more on the positives that emerged from this storm rather than the negatives. The “goodness” of the many in supporting their communities.
While we are working together to keep each other safe, our services at Clerkin Psychology will only be delivered online, via video calls or telephone. This is not ideal, maybe, but is is still an effective way of ensuring we can support you, our clients, safely and thoroughly, through this crisis. I have also created a special resources page of useful tools to help everyone deal with the anxieties that COVID-19 has brought to the fore. Check out the link below entitled “Coping With COVID-19”

I’m a HCPC-registered clinical psychologist and EMDR Practitioner with nearly 30 years experience of offering therapy and helping people to tackle their psychological, emotional and behavioural problems.
At Clerkin Psychology, we offer psychological assessment and therapy, using EMDR and CBT techniques, for young people (over 16 years) and adults for mental health or emotional problems including social anxiety, health anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), work stress, and phobias.

Given the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, I thought it would be useful to add this guidance to my site for your assistance. If you feel unwell and are concerned that you may have been exposed to the virus, please call NHS 111 for further guidance. It is advised that you DO NOT go to your GP or health centre, but rather give them a call to discuss the situation. Self-isolation while you are feeling unwell is recommended.
For Existing Clients: With regard to appointments with Clerkin Psychology, should you have an appointment booked with us, you will have had an email letting you know that we are moving all of our therapy session online, for video or telephone consultations only. Some will choose to wait until the situation allows face-to-face sessions once again, I know, but for those of you unsure about working on video, I can assure you that this way of working is just as effective as in-person sessions. If you join me for one session online, I am confident you’ll find it beneficial. If you wish to have a video session, it’s a very straightforward process to set in place; I will send you a link to a secure video meeting room; you can just click on the link to join me in the session.
