What is Personal Coaching?
As your Personal Development or Life Coach, Dr Clerkin works from the starting belief that you have the ability to influence and change situations in your life, if only you knew how.
Coaching is a type of learning that encourages self-development. The aim of coaching is to enable you to develop the skills and attitudes required to get the best from your life. As your Personal Coach, I will work with you to help you to identify and achieve your most valued goals.
What does Personal Coaching involve?
Personal Life Coaching involves a series of conversations between you and your life coach – either by telephone or face-to-face. The process of coaching involves a combination of questioning, listening, feedback, and setting and achieving your goals. Personal Coaching involves you working together with your coach to achieve the best results for you.
How does Personal Coaching work?
Personal Coaching can help you to overcome the obstacles to achieving what it is you really want to be and do. As your coach, I will not give you recommendations or solutions for problems, but I will work with you to encourage and support you to find the solutions that work for you. Coaching involves helping you to find your own answers. It involves you being willing to accept responsibility to stay committed to achieving your valued goals.
Is Coaching the same as Therapy or Counselling?
No. Therapy and counselling typically focus on problems areas within a person’s life and
take account of the influence of past events on their present functioning. Coaching focuses on your life now and in the future, and looks at what areas you need to work on to put the right pieces in place to achieve your potential. It involves you setting goals that you can work towards and move forward in your life.
Are Coaching sessions kept confidential?
Yes. One of the key factors in successful coaching is to have a trusting relationship with your coach. Within this relationship, the confidentiality of our sessions is paramount, and I will always maintain high standards of confidentiality for my clients. Coaching also conforms to strict professional and ethical standards.
Do you follow a Code of Ethics?
As a Chartered Psychologist and member of the Special Interest Group in Coaching Psychology of the British Psychological Society, and an Associate Member of the Association for Coaching (AMAC), I conduct my practice in strict accordance with the codes of ethics, conduct and practice of the British Psychological Society and The Association for Coaching.
