Dr Colin Clerkin

Dr Colin Clerkin holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wales, Bangor. He is a registered Clinical Psychologist, a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, an EMDR Europe Accredited EMDR Practitioner, and an Associate Member of the Association for Coaching. He has completed additional specialist training in writing for the Courts and courtroom skills with the Bond Solon Legal Training Consultancy.

He is an experienced expert witness and therapist, with over 15 years experience as a clinical psychologist in both the NHS and privately. He started Clerkin Psychology Services Ltd in 2001, leaving the NHS in 2004 to go full-time into private practice, offering assessment, therapy, consultation and training to the public, solicitors and the Courts.

In 2006, Dr Clerkin introduced Personal Coaching into his portfolio of services, obtaining a Certificate in Life Coaching from Newcastle College and being admitted to the Association for Coaching as an Associate member along the way.

He is an Honorary Lecturer on the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course at the University of Wales, Bangor, in the area of Child Clinical Psychology, offering supervision to trainees and lecturing in the specialist areas of Child Psychology and the role of the Expert Witness.

Over the past 15 years, he has conducted assessments and therapy with children, young people, and adults, and their families, referred for a wide range of physical, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Since beginning his independent consultancy, Dr Clerkin has supplied at least 150 reports to the Courts and attended at Court as an Expert Witness on at least 30 occasions.

Instructions / Referrals Considered

Dr Clerkin is happy to consider instructions from solicitors and the Courts for assessment in relation to Family Proceedings, in both Public and Private Law, as well as medico-legal assessments relating to psychological trauma following road traffic accidents or similar traumatic experiences.

Also, he offers therapy to individuals, children and adults presenting with a range of difficulties, either self-referred or referred via medical agencies. He is registerd as a Provider with BUPA and PPP Healthcare.

Coaching clients have included retail managers, engineers, psychologists, company directors and retired individuals.
